CORRECT ME WHEN I'M WRONG!!!!
When I started the research on the Pacific Crest Trail, there weren’t any records of anyone completing it in one season let alone a woman. But I recently found out that June Mulford rode from Mexico to Canada with her husband’s help in 1959. This is the first and only known thru ride, many have ridden the trail as I have, had to skip sections and go back the same year or subsequent years, but June traveled from Mexico to Canada with no trailer to assist her (her husband sold it at the Mexican border) – that is a true thru ride! I wanted to let you all know that she was the first and to date is the only to have done so. After having gone as many miles on the Pacific Crest Trail as I have I now appreciate the tremendous effort June must have put forth to have accomplished this. This is her 50th anniversary of her historic ride and I send KUDOOS to June for a remarkable job and am glad that history decided not to forget her astonishing trip. I understand that she has given her records, photos and journal to the PCT and we may soon be able to read about it. I’ll keep you all informed as I find out more!
In the mean time, I am finalizing my own journal and will have the last of it for this year to Reid in a few days....I am going to ride to Oklahoma thru the Ouachita Mountains this afternoon, just to keep Issy and me in shape for next Spring when we will go back and cover the 544 approx miles we had to skip. Stay in touch!

Sue - I am thinking you must be approaching or already accross the Canadian Border at this date. YIPPEE!!! I know you have gaps to cover to the South but you're very close to accomplishing your overall goal - stay at it, Girl! Byron and I cheer you and Issy, Buton and your entire team on!
P/S - for your trip south to cover those gaps I left Burton with a phone message about one of the Online Thoroughbred Pedigree posters and small scale thoroughbred breeders in NW who wants to provide an overnite spot for you all when you're ready to go there. Call me for any other information you need.

Hello Sue,
Glad to see you are trying to get south asap.
I have been flying to Calgary the last few weeks and
can see more snow this last week flying over.
Do you have an estimated date for your end of ride.
Take care and I'll keep up with you on your logs.

Hi everyone!
I had to make a quick trip back to Arkansas, but am heading out to the trail Sunday. I'm starting on the north end close to Canada because the weather is getting colder and being in the wilderness in a whiteout isn't something I look forward to. Once I get to Canada, I'll drop south and fill in the parts I missed (weather permitting). I am getting the journal to Reid today so you will have many pages of updates. Sorry about the delay but it is hard to get internet service. Keep posting so I know you all are out there. I really enjoy hearing from you all and even more importantly, I need to know someone is reading my journals. When I don't hear from you all I let the mountains discourage me. KEEP POSTING, PLEASE!

Susan, almost Oregon!, 08-07-2009 14:09:57, Unknown toggle

Hey folks, I'm almost to the Oregon border! Only 48 miles to go. I sent a few more journal pages to Reid and he should have them posted in a day or two. Don't forget to send a donation if you can, the Groom Elite Program sure needs your support and much as I need your comments! Issy is becomming a great horse with lots of instinct for the trail, read about how he handles the bear!

Hi everyone. I had to write and let you know that I passed the [b]HALF WAY point and you can see pictures of it when Reid has time to post them up.
HALF WAY....1325 miles to Mexico or Canada!
Some great country and lots of adventures - Forest fire, bear encounter, Moosehead Creek rescue. I'll get more journal up in the next few days so you can read all about it!

Hi everyone! Had to let you know I needed to make a few changes to the journal. I can remember every trail, every foot step but I can't remember what day of the week it is! Reid is posting the corrected dates and with the Spot locator we should have correct days from now on. I had to by pass the high passes 11,000 and better since there is still so much snow. This is the reason you will see me heading south a few times. I am trying to cover as much PCT as possible and when I trailer around a bad spot I try to ride south to get as close to it as possible. I'm off the Agnew Meadows today. Keep posting, I enjoy your comments! Don't forget to send a dime or two to Groom Elite. Thanks for all your support!

Hey Bill, So glad you made it to Warner Springs! I tried to access your journal but had a problem. I am thrilled to know I was wrong and that you are going forward as you had planned. Could you post your exact full journal address so we all can follow you? We were sure worried about you that night, but it looks like our worry was unjustified! Best of luck and good hiking!

There have been many things happening to me and Port. My daily journal tells the full story. Port and I fell into a 50' ravine - no escape from that - contacted the UCDavis heliscape for horses, well, you will just have to read the journals to find out what has transpired.

Thank you to everyone who is writing to me. I need everyone's encouragement. My feet hurt, my face is wind/sun burned and my more than a 1/2 century old body needs to hear from as many of you as possible. Just knowing you all are there supporting me makes the difference! For those of you who would donated any amount over $100 I will give you a live link to my actual location in real time with the trail and surrounds visible thru Google Earth including pictures on a regular basis. Just make the pledge and let Reid know you want the live link. Either way, please keep your comments coming, I really need them.
