Susan is home from the first segment of her PCT 2010 experience and is catching up on her journal. Click on the link above to read more of her interesting journey and enjoy beautiful scenery through her pictures.

One of the most unique aspects of this first segment was the hospitality and help of Terry Kenny. Visit Terry's website www.taskfarms.org and learn more about this unique and entertaining California farm.

Susan is back on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2010. As I flew over the Sierra mountains on my way to a meeting in Modesto, CA I was in awe and proud of our founder and what she accomplished in 2009. Those of us that know her knew that that 'ol trail might be tough, but that Susan would be back to finish what she, Port and Issy started in 2009. Here is the plan for 2010:

THREE PARTS:
Part I: Southern Calif desert portions skipped in part due to fire. Beautiful this time of year.

Part II: The portion in Oregon below Crater Lake and on to Washington

Finally - PART III: The High Sierra over the high passes ( Susan contracted a packer to guide her and haul the supplies since it will be many days without coming out of the mountains.) There was a lot of snow this year, so August should be a good time for this section.

Susan wil go home in between times and let Issy rest and recoup then head out when times are optimum.

Susan is back in the saddle and you can "ride" with her through her journal by clicking on the "Susan's Journal" link above.

CORRECT ME WHEN I'M WRONG!!!!
When I started the research on the Pacific Crest Trail, there weren’t any records of anyone completing it in one season let alone a woman. But I recently found out that June Mulford rode from Mexico to Canada with her husband’s help in 1959. This is the first and only known thru ride, many have ridden the trail as I have, had to skip sections and go back the same year or subsequent years, but June traveled from Mexico to Canada with no trailer to assist her (her husband sold it at the Mexican border) – that is a true thru ride! I wanted to let you all know that she was the first and to date is the only to have done so. After having gone as many miles on the Pacific Crest Trail as I have I now appreciate the tremendous effort June must have put forth to have accomplished this. This is her 50th anniversary of her historic ride and I send KUDOOS to June for a remarkable job and am glad that history decided not to forget her astonishing trip. I understand that she has given her records, photos and journal to the PCT and we may soon be able to read about it. I’ll keep you all informed as I find out more!
In the mean time, I am finalizing my own journal and will have the last of it for this year to Reid in a few days....I am going to ride to Oklahoma thru the Ouachita Mountains this afternoon, just to keep Issy and me in shape for next Spring when we will go back and cover the 544 approx miles we had to skip. Stay in touch!

Sue - I am thinking you must be approaching or already accross the Canadian Border at this date. YIPPEE!!! I know you have gaps to cover to the South but you're very close to accomplishing your overall goal - stay at it, Girl! Byron and I cheer you and Issy, Buton and your entire team on!
P/S - for your trip south to cover those gaps I left Burton with a phone message about one of the Online Thoroughbred Pedigree posters and small scale thoroughbred breeders in NW who wants to provide an overnite spot for you all when you're ready to go there. Call me for any other information you need.

Hello Sue,
Glad to see you are trying to get south asap.
I have been flying to Calgary the last few weeks and
can see more snow this last week flying over.
Do you have an estimated date for your end of ride.
Take care and I'll keep up with you on your logs.

The journal is now updated through July 26 -- Included in this most recent update are bear sightings, skinny dipping, beautiful water falls and a missed connection that resulted in Susan and Issy spending a night on the trail. Remember to go to Pay Pal and make your third quarter contribution if you haven't already done so.
